 RE:  CHILDREN AND LITERACY

Each year I commit to donating a portion of my time for civic and charitable causes.  This year I am proud to chair the foundation fundraiser, Service-Above-Self, for my Rotary club.  There are over 1.3 million Rotarians world-wide and almost 33,000 clubs with an average of 40 members per club.  My club, The Birmingham Sunrise Rotary Club, is proud to have over 150 members.  With our club’s large size comes a larger responsibility and that is why I accepted the assignment as this year’s foundation fundraiser chair.  Our club’s mission is to help children and reduce illiteracy through a number of community outreach programs.  Some example outreach programs that our club has helped include:

  • Adaptive Aquatics
  • The Bell Center
  • Children’s Hospital
  • Cornerstone School
  • DHR of Birmingham
  • Jr. League of Birmingham Playground Build
  • Children’s Harbor Family Center
  • YMCA Youth Center

Now more than ever before charities need your and our help.  Please visit our event website, www.service-above-self.org, and learn what others say and how our efforts impact their charities in a short video. That is why I am asking you to help me in my fundraising efforts.

My primary purpose as chair this year is to replenish our foundation fund so we can continue to contribute financially to those charities that meet our criteria of providing assistance to children and helping with illiteracy.  However, we have arranged for a very nice evening as a benefit of your giving to be held on Thursday March 4, 2010 that includes cocktails, dinner and entertainment.  We also have a dozen special live auction items that will be auctioned off after dinner.  And, to wrap up the night the legendary band, Chevy6, will perform numerous classics to take us down memory lane.  This evening starts at 6:30 at The Cahaba Grand Conference Center in Birmingham.

I need your help!  Ideally you sponsor a table of eight for $1,400 or purchase a pair of tickets for $350.  You can learn more by visiting our website at www.service-above-self.org.  Your contribution is tax deductible to the limits permitted by your tax advisor.  Thank you for considering this very important contribution and helping me achieve our club’s fundraising goals.

Sincerely,

Mitch Hungerpiller
